Radnor Forge Location

Map
Radnor Forge is located in St. Mary's County Maryland. The immediate area, a part of Newtown Hundred, was first granted to one William Assistor in about 1640. It was patented as "Radnor" in 1700 to a John Dansey. Many owners later, the area name has now degenerated to Breton Beach - a part of Medley's Neck. This spit of land is between the Potomac River and Breton Bay. The island (dark green) just to the west/southwest is Saint Clements or Blackistone Island and is where the first Maryland colonists landed in March 1634. My wife can trace her ancestors (10th generation) to a religious malcontent/indentured servant who arrived at this time. Her relatives have provided me with many of the tools that I use in my hobbies and are referenced throughout these pages.
Arthritis has now (year 2005) curtailed my web page hobbies. I now spend most of my time as a docent or guide at historic sites in St. Mary's County. I also research old colonial land grants in St. Mary's County.
I am currently (2005) a retired Civil Servant who spent 38 years working for and serving in the US Navy. I have a beautiful wife, four daughters and 6 grandchildren.
Picture Shown are myself (standing) and my late friend, Henry Eisenschmidt, restoring a 1906 Auburn horse drawn sickle bar mower. Henry was a great companion whose motto was "lets do it". He was a emigrant from Germany in 192?. He was at Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 serving in the US Army during "The Attack". He once showed me a letter to him from Adolph Hitler requesting that he return to Germany and serve with the Wermacht. He was on our side at the time!!! He passed away in July 1993 at 79 years of age. He will be seen in some of the other images in these pages. He swore he didn't color his hair. He will be forever remembered and missed.
