Blacksmith Tools

I like making my own blacksmith tools such as hardy tools, tongs, swaggers, chisels, punches etc. I find that scrap rebar is very useful for making tools and it is readily available. For tools that require tempering, I use coil and leaf springs, the teeth from spike tooth harrows and cultivator shoes.

Some tools are impractical to make such as the post drill press shown. I have two of these drill presses and the only problem is sometimes I run out of power. My cousin-in-law gave me this one and my uncle-in-law (cousin-in-law's uncle) gave me the other one. (Don't ask me to explain all of my out-laws.) They both were frozen with rust when I got them. They really cut. Note the aluminum work table. The original table was missing so I cast one from beer cans Picture
