I got into green sand casting so that I could actually construct some of the sundials that I have designed. The requirement was to use a non-rusting material for the dial face and gnomen. I also had to have an easy way of inscribing the hour lines and labels on the dial face. I had no way of etching or inscribing them on a metal plate. Why not make patterns and cast them? I have since used casting to make other things such as C clamps, small tools, bells etc. Below are links describing the procedures that I have used.
